Before television, there was radio...

Email from Al Magdaleno On Wed, Jun 11, 2014:

"[At this link: http://www.dumb.com/oldtimeradio/] there's an unbelievable collection of all the old time radio shows. Find your favorite, click on it, and listen to all the episodes."

I sure remember some of these. Hadn’t heard the Whistlers whistle for about 60 years, but still remembered how it went after hearing a few notes. And the squeaking door in Inner Sanctum. - Alex

Hi Al,
Thanks for posting this.  I didn't know so many of those old shows were recorded.   I used to listen to many of those programs, starting with Tom Mix (that one didn/t make it on the list  ) and probably ending with Gun Smoke. Palidin seems to be missing also.  Jack, Doc and Reggie!  Those were the characters in "I love a mystery".   This show played after bed time.  I don't remember what time it was but it seemed like midnight to me.  The room was dark and only the sound of the radio could be heard.  It got very scary at times.

Our old console radio looked something like the picture above. This particular radio was a
Silvertone Model 4485 Console Radio produced in 1937 the year I was born.  It was the center of attention most evenings after dinner at our house.

Thanks again for the link.

Marla - We will miss you greatly.

From Alex Magdaleno to the Berendo gang:

It is with great sadness we inform you that after a long illness Marla passed away on April 28th.  Marla was born in Los Angeles August 9, 1940.  The Berendo gang has always felt like our extended family and I am sure Marla could remember everyone's birthday to the end.  She often talked about her wonderful memories of the neighborhood.  We all have played cards with her or been teased by her at one time or other.  To the end she remained outgoing and strong-willed and handled her infirmities with great courage.  She loved chatting with people, playing games and traveling (not hiking!).  For many years she lived independently in her own apartment in Port Hueneme and the past 14 years had her own bedroom in a group home in Granada Hills where she charmed the staff with her spunk.

We plan to hold a memorial celebrating her life in Camarillo and will provide details later.  In lieu of flowers you may honor Marla's memory with donations to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, address: 6430 Independence Ave, Woodland Hills 91367
