The Little Grocery Store in the 40s and 50s

Back in the day when we were kids living near 112th and Berendo Avenue, one of the things we had in common was the little neighborhood store on 112th street between Budlong and Van Buren.  There we would go on errands for our moms or more often, to buy ourselves a treat such as ice cream or candy bars or soda pop.  The store owners knew us all by name. It was known during my years in the Berendo neighborhood variously as Newsoms, Baxters, and in my last years there, as Pearsons.  My brothers Mike and Dave both worked there and so did Mike Chenier.

Today if you were to go there you would see that the store has been converted into a garage.  The top picture is the way it looks today.  Just for the heck of it, I am creating on my PC a 3D model of the store both inside and outside. The bottom picture above is the result of my memory and those of my brothers, Dave, Mike and Tony and of  Alex Magdaleno, Cathy Fortuna, Larry Robinson and Mike Chenier.  This is a picture of the outside of the store, but I have also attempted to depict what was inside.  Later I will post pictures of the inside.

If you notice anything wrong or missing, please post a comment here so I can adjust the model.
