Re: Toy airplane for grandkids

Al,  Thanks for the entertaining "How To" on building a spiffy airplane for grand kids.   Next time the grand kids use it, take a pic and send it to us.

hi Al,

The link that you gave me, (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/BERENDO)  if you didn't notice, has a search button to the extreme right. It takes you to the following link:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search?aop&path=BERENDO .   There you can search all the Berendo list messages using a key word such as "eddy".  I did that and got one hit with your dad mentioned in it.

Hi Al,
Thanks for the pictures. They're great!  I'll put them up on the Berendo.net site.  Can you tell me the approximate dates by any chance.  They seem to me to be 1980ish.  Was the occasion your folk's 50th anniversary?  Is that your house and yard in the background?

As far as your Rootsweb question:  Are you referring to the stuff found at http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jdumas/berendo//berenstr.html (Berendo Stories).  There's a link on that page that takes you to your account of Manuel's memories at this link: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jdumas/berendo//manual.html.  I don't know if there is a facility that Rootsweb provides to search individual sites if that's what you want to do.  We just happen to use Rootsweb's freepages to store various Berendo pages but Rootsweb really knows nothing of them accept that I administer them.   I might not be understanding you completely, so straighten me out if I've misunderstood.

Re: Google Earth

Hi Gang,
I don't know about 3D, but I did notice that there is one swimming pool in the Berendo area.  It is at the house across the alley from the Latourell's.  We would have known about it if it had existed in our time.  The closest other swimming pool seems to be at about 111th and Hoover.

Re: New album

Thanks Al, for uploading all the old 1940s photos.   Lots to look at for an old codger like me.  Great family shots!  Loved the pics of Yuma and McAllum(?).   The old plank road through the sand dunes was something my Dad told us about - How their car broke down while trying to drive on it when he was 6 or 7.  You looked like you were trying to get the motor started on that hand saw with your Dad, Ray and Marla looking on :-)   I'll have to magnify Manuel's letters, but I'm looking forward to reading them.

ps: Do they ever have earthquakes in Yuma?  It looks like the house could easily fall off those piers. - j

To Lamora

Dear Lamora

We will all miss you Lamora, you were a good mother to all the "Berendo" kids. As with most mothers many of your accomplishments have gone unsung. The little day to day efforts and struggles of child raising were where you shown. Thanks for the many birthday parties thrown and for the many trips to the movies and other events that you drove us to and for the consolation and first aid you gave us when we bumped or scraped a knee. And for the many free lunches I had at your house because I just happened to be around.  Also thanks for being friend and good neighbor to all our mothers. I remember in particular the "Hen Parties" that were held in each other's homes where the knitting, crocheting and tidbits of gossip and experience were shared.

Rays of sunshine upon you where ever you are,

Johnny Dumas
