I've been searching for a long time for a boys book I read to my sons back
in the early 80's but I don't remember the name or when it was first
published. It was about two boys and their pet turtle, and they went to the
pet store and got turtle food and a turtle bowl. I've talked to library
historians, etc. No luck.

I've still got a copy around somewhere. And now I have to scour the house to prove that to myself, Thanks a lot. Also got Millions of Cats in that same place. They come from decades of cruising "Friends of the Library" bookstores. I started back at LA Central's once-a-month sales with Becky in a papoose carrier. They were dumping all those kid books like Eddie & the Fire Engine with the tough-as-nails after-market library covers. Haven't kept them all, but I have enough to leave someone with a disposal problem. (Hint: In the grave, kids, in the grave.)

Hi Al,
I don't remember this book. Then I wasn't into books much when I was a
kid. I probably would have liked had I seen it because of all the
pictures. I remember having a hard time with the first book I read that
did not have any pictures. I kept turning the pages ahead of where I was,
hoping there would be a picture. I think the book was Penrod.

Re: Dave's broken arm?
I did not remember that snow fell on three consecutive nights! I don't think we got more than one snowfall on Berendo. Won't happen again, now, unless they dig that tunnel to Greenland that I've been recommending, the Glacial Runoff Canal? It's an incredible, incredible idea and many, many wonderful people have expressed profuse thanks to me for it! We'll make Mexico pay for it.

Re: Dave's broken arm?
Mike,
It would have to have been early in 1949 when Dave broke his arm. I don't know how long it took to complete the building but the theater was still in the foundation digging stage when Dave broke his arm and it was already showing movies in late summer early fall. We haven't heard from Dave yet. He must remember something of what showed on the outside of the magazine.

I'm sad to report that my sister Yuli Dumas (Juli D. Lydum) died on Saturday April 16, 2016. She had been struggling with cancer for about 3 years. She was very fond of the Berendo gang and treasured her memories of our childhood years on Berendo avenue. I'm sad to report that my sister Yuli Dumas (Juli D. Lydum) died on Saturday April 16, 2016. She had been struggling with cancer for about 3 years. She was very fond of the Berendo gang and treasured her memories of our childhood years on Berendo avenue. You can read her obiturary at http://www.avpress.com/obit-archive.php?obit=32197784. - Johnny Dumas--
